Russell lived a long good life. My Mother was Gladys (Shore) Stevens and Russell was her very good friend. Any time we travelled up to see Granny or attend a reunion we always hoped to visit with Russell. He was always such an inviting and interesting gentleman and my Mother was thankful for his friendship. Our last visit was in early 2012 after Russell had some health issues and Mom was starting to have memory troubles but wondered if she would be lucky enough to have one last visit with him. When I went to see if he was home, which he was and asked him if he remembered Gladys, he said 'well of course I do, she was one hell of a baseball player you know'. It was always so nice to see school chums have a visit and remember the old 'glory' days. I was always so thankful for their visits, to see her so happy with those memories was a treasure. It was really nice to witness such a strong friendship throughout all those years. Be good to one another!

Russell and Theresa were two of those wonderful Kinistino district people that helped me go to college and get a university degree so that I could teach. In a very real way I'm standing on Russell and Theresa's shoulders and will always owe a great debt of gratitude to both of them. I had the opportunity to work with and for Russell for many years. We worked hard and sometimes late into the evening but he never asked me to do anything that he wasn't prepared to do himself. His was a life well lived by a fine man. God just got a great tail gunner. Thanks, Russell. Joyce and I send our best wishes to the Bacon family as you celebrate your Dad's life. Harvey Welch
