Obituary
Emrick was born July 11, 1926 on the farm near Othon, Saskatchewan
in the Yorkton area. He passed from this life on April 18, 2016 at the
age of 89 years, at the Chateau Providence Care Home, St. Briuex, SK.
He was born to Louis and Martha Latkoczky (nee Kovacs), young
brother to his sister Elizabeth. After his father’s passing in 1938 they
moved to the Middle Lake area. There Emrick went to a country
school called Lake Ignace. A few years later they moved three miles
north to a better house called the Reid House. From there Emrick
went to Rhona Lake School. After completing grade eight he set out
working as a farm labourer.
In 1947 He saved up enough money to buy a farm between St. James
and Spalding. He lived on the farm with his mother for many years,
finely buying a house in Pleasantdale. Everyday Emrick would drive
to his farm to do the seeding and harvesting and other farm duties as
needed. He farmed until he was 79 years old, he then rented the farm
to a neighbour. Emrick helped at the garage in Pleasantdale where he
acquired the nickname “metric” due to working with tools. With not
much to fill his days Emrick would drive to his cousins place in the
Wakaw area namely Frank Kovacs to help with whatever he could do
at that age. Frank introduced him to fishing which he enjoyed.
In the fall of 2008 he wasn’t feeling well. He came to St. Brieux and
stayed at his cousins Emric Kovacs. On December 21, 2008 he
suffered a stroke and in January of 2009 he then moved to Chateau
Providence Care Home where he was cared for until his passing.
He leaves to mourn his passing his sister Elizabeth Berube from
Beaverton, Ontario, her three daughters; Dianne Desanto (Danny)
& family (Melissa, Daniel) Richmond Hill; Linda Allen (Jerry), St
Catherines, Ontario;
Pearl Little and family (Cory, Toby), Uxbridge, Ontario.
Numerous cousins from Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario.
He was predeceased by his Father Louis in 1938, his mother Martha
in 1991, brother-in-law Charles Berube in 2009.
“May he rest in the peace of Jesus Christ our Savior”
