Obituary
Gordon Kaminskas was born on March 25, 1935 to John and Ethel Kaminskas of Spalding, SK.
Gordon grew up east of Spalding and attended Lake Edward School until he quit in Grade 8 to help his dad with farming. Money was scarce and all work was done manually - clearing bush, picking roots, haying, and harvesting.
In 1956, Gordon began working on the North Saskatchewan Bridge. He moved to Kitimat, BC, where he worked at an aluminum plant for over 25 years. Kitimat was always damp with lots of snow. At times, he claimed that the snow drifts were so high that he shoveled the snow from his roof “up,” not down!
He bought a house in Kelowna, BC, and moved from Kitimat shortly after. He enjoyed the warmer and drier weather, and lived there until his passing. He grew various fruit trees - plums, pears, and grapes, as well as a beautiful garden. When he visited Spalding, he always drove...he refused to fly!
In recent years, his health failed. He landed in the hospital with a blood clot in his arm. After various tests and procedures, it was determined that he also had bladder cancer. Gordon made peace with his Lord, and passed away shortly after.
Blessed be his memory.
He leaves to mourn two sisters, Annie Long of Naicam and Nita (Albert) Hoffman of Saskatoon; one sister-in-law, Iris Kaminskas of Melfort; two cousins, George (Julie) Velpel of Pense and Bob Velpel of Victoria, BC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Gordon is predeceased by his brother Alex Kaminskas and his brother-in-law Reigh Long.
