George Herbert Weaver was born on February 3, 1948 to Herb and Alladene Weaver. He grew up in the Gowanbrae district just down the road from his cousins. He took all his schooling in Kinistino. He was very involved in high school sports playing football, volleyball and basketball. He married his high school sweetheart Brenda Freeman in 1968. In the early 1970’s George earned his Bachelor of Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. George and Brenda lived in Saskatoon where their oldest daughter Lynette was born and Regina where their daughter Chantel was born. From there they moved to Wynyard where George worked at Unifeed. In 1979 they moved back to Kinistino to take over the family farm. George farmed along side his Dad and father-in-law George Freeman for quite a few years. He also worked briefly at the Sask Wheat Pool in Meskanaw, then afterwards at the Kinistino Co-op Bulk. He ran a hog barn and drove school bus for years. George retired from farming in 1996 then worked at Peavey Mart in Prince Albert until his second retirement in 2013. George liked to be active. He enjoyed his coffee crowd and his Tim Hortons runs. In the summertime you would find him on the golf course, Monday mornings in Birch Hills, and Seniors Golf on Wednesdays in Melfort. He was always ready for a game and the clubs were always in his car. His winters were kept busy with curling and bonspiels. He served as the Kinistino Curling Club Treasurer for many years. When his group of friends started pickleball he joined in as well. Other special people in George’s life were the Pilling family. A lot of time was spent with Ray and Wylma and their children Jason and Kevin, and later on Jason’s wife Christie and Kevin’s wife Lindsay and their children. There were evenings of cards, concerts, car shows, or anything else they could find to do together. In recent years George began travelling. He enjoyed his trip to Cuba with family, especially seeing all the old cars in Havana. He loved the weeks he spent each winter in Arizona golfing and sightseeing. He did a bucket list trip to Toronto to see the Blue Jays play. This January he spent many a morning whale watching with a Bloody Mary in hand in Maui. George was a very involved Grandpa. His grandkids were his pride and joy. He spent many hours at dance recitals, volleyball, basketball, and baseball games. His favorite though was hockey games. Everyone knew George as a quiet, unassuming man, but if you talked to him after a hockey game you knew he definitely had a competitive side. He just pretended he didn’t. He loved playing cards and frustrating everyone by purposely stalling and playing slow. George was predeceased by his parents Herb and Alladene Weaver, his parents-in-law George and Wanda Freeman, and his wife Brenda. He is survived by his daughter Lynette (Troy) , and children Emma (David) , Shanna (Karsten), and Cole; daughter Chantel (Darren), and children Shane (Alicia), Brendan and Caden; sister-in-law Cheryl (Terry) Jellicoe, and nieces Tanya (Bruce) Victoria, Anna and Corbin Jellicoe, and Janice Jellicoe. A private family funeral service will be held. Friends so wishing to may make a memorial contribution to the Kinistino Cemetery or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
