Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Lester Paul Holoien. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 12, 2019. Surrounded with love and his family by his side. Lester was born on February 7, 1942 to Peder and Martha Holoien at their Lenvale family homestead. He had four brothers, Wes, Leonard, Herb, Doug and four sisters, Muriel, Shirley, Darlene and Dianne. This is where the importance and love for his God, family, music and sports began. When Lester was a teenager he met a sweet young girl by the name of Caroline Grandy. But it was in May 1962 that their hearts connected. They fell in love and married on March 2, 1963 in Ridgedale, Sask. They moved to Melfort and began their journey of 56 years. They had three children; two sons; Kerry Paul (1963), Leny Michael (1966) and a daughter, Bobi Lynn (1971). Les had a very strong faith, he and Caroline raised their family in this faith. The love he had for his United Church family ran deep in his heart. He was an active and committed member throughout his married life. His work life was busy and he had experience in different fields. He found his place with the City of Melfort and that is where he gave 30 years of his life. He truly loved his job and enjoyed going to work everyday. His co-workers / managers were family to him and each of them held a very special place in his heart. Les had a passion for most sports but closest to his heart were: hockey, fastball, golf, football, broomball, baseball and curling. He spent many years playing and coaching these sports. Memories of the 222’s, Colonels and White’s Wizards were some of his most cherished. Anyone who knew Les, knew he was a huge HABS fan and he gladly accepted the teasing that went along with it. But what truly made his heart sing was driving mile after mile to rink after rink to watch his grandsons play hockey. He also traveled many miles to watch his grand daughters play volleyball , soccer and dance. In the summer months he was delighted to spend time at the ball diamonds watching his granddaughter and nephews play ball, going to Regina to watch his beloved Riders, quading and of course golfing. His second home May through September was the Melfort Golf Course. He spent countless hours with many close friends telling jokes, sharing laughs and making memories. What truly meant the most to Les above anything else was the love of his God and the love of his family. Family was everything to him. He was so very proud of his wife, kids, grand kids and great grand kids. He travelled many miles to be with them. His presence at their activities was always a highlight and something that gave him great joy. Also close to his heart were his brothers, sisters, in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. He treasured every function, visit, reunion and golf game that he got to be a part of. His heart was always filled with gratitude. Left to celebrate and cherish Lester’s life is his wife of 56 years Caroline, his children; Kerry, Leny (Rhae-Ann), Bobi (Mark). His grandchildren Robert, Brittany (Cam), Jae-Ann, Leyton, Jordon (Kyle), Dustin (Renee). His great grandchildren Emma, Luke, Jack and great granddaughter expected in September. His siblings, in-laws; his many special nieces and nephews, his cousins and all who knew and loved him. Gramps, you can rest now. We love you and will spend our lives trying to make you proud. Until we meet again Memorial contributions in memory of Les may be directed to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3x1 We the family would like to thank everyone who made memorial contributions in memory of Les Holoien to the Alzheimer Association, it was very much appreciated.
