Obituary of Jean Boyd

Mom was born on January 3rd, 1935 near Arelee, SK. The middle child and only daughter of Tom and Marie Cleghorn. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to their new farm, five miles west of Kinistino. She attended Gowanbrae School and Kinistino High School, then continued her education at Normal School in Saskatoon to become a teacher. She taught at Tiger Lily, and Winton schools.
Mom married Jim Boyd on July 20th, 1955. They returned to the farm in 1957 and raised four children, Tom, Ian, Nancy and Darren. Mom often helped with the daily farm chores, cleaning the cream separator, and cleaning eggs from their hatchery flock, while maintaining a farm home, cooking wonderful meals, baking bread and many dozens of cookies, and raising her children to be principled, responsible adults.
When her children were older Mom spent many hours working on behalf of the UCW including Camp Tapawingo, foul suppers and funeral lunches. She also did Presbytery work. She volunteered for 19 years on the Kinistino Housing Authority board, performed church services in her later years at the three Care Homes in Kinistino and Weldon. For many years she organized and hosted at the farm, the Young Family Reunion. In her early years she enjoyed square dancing with Dad, and in her later years enjoyed carpet bowling at the Half Century Club.
Jean is predeceased by her parents Tom and Marie Cleghorn; her husband of 60 years, Jim; Jim’s four sisters Catherine LaRiviere, Olive Boyd, Bernice Lipscombe and Theresa (Russel) Bacon. Also, Jim’s parents, Jim and Mable Boyd, and her sister in law Linda Cleghorn.
Jean is survived by her children Tom (Thressa), Milgrove, Ontario; Ian at Kinistino; Nancy (John), Saskatoon, SK; and Darren (Rayla) in southern California. Her grandchildren Amber (Tom), Regina, SK; Tyler (Mel), Cambridge, Ontario; and Scott (Candyce), Saskatoon, SK, as well as three great grandchildren, Vann, Beau, and Nova, and many nephews and friends.
