Obituary of Norma Jean Remus
Norma Jean (Pedersen) Remus passed away on March 10th, 2023 after a brave battle with cancer. She was born on September 2nd, 1953, in Melfort SK. Daughter of parents Norman Pedersen (1927-1974) and Bertha (Dolly) Pedersen (nee Andal). Beloved sister of Louise Pedersen (1952-1980). She is survived by her mother Dolly Pedersen, husband Ron Remus, and children Sarah Pedersen (Briana Hedlin), Mathew Remus, Leslie Tarnowski (Stephen Tarnowski) and her grandchildren Jill and Thea Tarnowski. A true free spirit, Norma moved west to Alberta to attend NAIT for office administration and to British Columbia in her twenties to explore life and adventure outside of Saskatchewan. She worked at the Royal Bank. Norma established a close friend group while in Cranbrook, and returned to Melfort following the death of her father and sister to care for her Mother, Dolly. When she returned to Melfort she took a job managing a gift store, which she later purchased and named Sarah’s attic. It was a beautiful shop that she took great pride in and made a family affair working alongside her Mom and cousin Donna. The shop became a hub for afternoon coffee visits where family and friends were always welcome. Later in life following the closing of Sarah’s attic, Norma worked at the Melfort Hospital and Parkland Place, where she strived to provide support and comfort to others whenever she was able.
She always talked about how everything changed when she became a mother and had Sarah. Norma met her husband Ron in the mid 90’s and they became inseparable. They got engaged at Christmas in 1998, and the family grew as she welcomed Ron’s children, Mathew and Leslie. Norma valued family, loyalty, honesty and authenticity. She loved strong coffee, romance novels, painting, a good action movie, BBQs with family, hosting family get togethers, playing cards, road trips with her aunts, traveling and spending time at the lake. She taught her family to love and care for animals and loved to spoil her dog Charlie as well as her grand dogs! Family and extended family were the sole focus in her life, and she worried and took care of them until the end, often to the exclusion of her own needs. Norma will be deeply missed by all those that she’s left behind and to love her was to be truly blessed. We will carry her memory and her love with us always.
A Private Funeral Service will be held, interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Norma may be directed to the North Central Health Care Foundation P.O. Box 1480 Melfort, Sask. S0E 1A0
