Dr. Malcolm McPhee July 11, 1939-February 19, 2023
Dr. Malcolm McPhee passed away peacefully at Mayo Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by his loving family. For two years he fought a courageous battle with metastatic skin cancer after having a kidney transplant years previous.
Malcolm was born in Tisdale, SK to the late Clinton and Edna (Loucks) McPhee, the second of 7 children. He grew up on a farm homesteaded by his father, a WWI veteran. There Malcolm learned the value of hard work, living in a home with wood heating and no running water.
After his grade 12, he attended the U. of S., graduating from the College of Medicine in 1964.
In 1965, he married Corinne Greschuk and they began their marriage at Ann Arbor, Michigan where Malcolm was a resident in Physical Medicine. Son Neil was born in 1967 and Malcolm entered private practice in Calgary in1967. Daughter Charlene arrived in 1969. followed by daughter Kelly in 1970. The family moved to Rochester, MN in 1973 when Malcolm joined the staff of the Mayo Clinic.
In 1987, Malcolm along with 45 colleagues established the satellite Mayo Clinic at Scottsdale, AZ, retiring in 1999 to join his son Neil in private practice. He was very involved in the medical community in Scottsdale and was medical director after he helped establish a rehabilitation and acute care unit there. He mentored many students and co-authored many papers and texts as well as serving 12 years as a director on the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Aside from his lifelong professional achievements, he derived great joy from his marriage to Corinne and all the special times with their children and granddaughter, Angela, a graduate of USC, Dept. Of Music.
Malcolm is survived by his wife, Corinne, son Neil(Lucia), Scottsdale, daughter Charlene(Madeline), St. Paul, MN, daughter Kelly, Scottsdale, granddaughter Angela, Santa Monica, CA,, sisters Lois Marleau, Kitimat, BC, Marion(Harvey Heavin) Melfort, SK, Margaret(Joe Galipeau), Cobble Hill, BC, Merle Morton, Calgary, AB, Lynda McPhee, Tisdale, and brother, Ken(Carol) Saskatoon, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, Corinne's parents, brothers-in-law, Denis Marleau and Dennis Greschuk.
His celebration of life was held on Feb. 28, 2023 at Paradise Gardens, Scottsdale AZ.
