Obituary of Gail Reid
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail Reid, who passed away in Melfort, Saskatchewan, in the peace of her home on August 31, 2024. Gail was born on September 26, 1936, in Melfort. She was the oldest daughter of Bill and Anne Curtis. Gail greatly adored her grandparents; Bill and Charlotte Wood. After high school, she attended nursing school to become a CNA. Her sister Carol introduced her to the love of her life, Dave Reid, and they married on her birthday in 1957. Together they had three daughters, Donna (1965), Debbie (1967) and Dianne (1968).
Gail enjoyed life on the family farm in Meskanaw, Saskatchewan. She loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She always had a large and prosperous vegetable garden. She would order her seeds early in the spring and start them in her greenhouse, and she would take great pride in her beautiful flowers that she grew throughout her yard. Everyone was always welcomed into Gail’s kitchen for coffee and friendship, as she was an extraordinary baker and an exceptional host. She was active in her community; becoming involved with the Meskanaw Rec Board and Melfort Air Cadets, and had a great love of curling.
Gail was a phenomenal caregiver, and a woman of amazing strength. She endured many hardships in her life; she lost Debbie at age 12 after a 4 year battle with cancer, and prematurely lost Dave when he was 62. Later in life, grandmotherhood became her pride and joy, and much of her time was spent with her grandchildren. Gail was privileged to get a second chance at love in her later years and has spent the last 8 years with Jim Stevenson; traveling and maintaining a busy social life as much as they were able.
Gail is predeceased by daughter Debbie (1980) and husband Dave (1991), as well as numerous other beloved family members. She is survived by her daughters Donna Reid and Dianne (Byron) Spencer, grandchildren Arynne Spencer and Tyler Spencer, her partner Jim Stevenson, as well as her siblings Carol Mannix and Lynn (Bob) LeMesurier.
The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who has taken the time to be present and provide comfort during this time.
Memorial contributions in memory of Gail may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation and/or Canadian Diabetes Association.
