Obituary
Susan Sheryl Vanderbyl (nee Lobb) was born on April 30, 1965 in Melfort, Saskatchewan to Lyell and Shirley Lobb. She was the eldest of two children.
Susan attended elementary school at Reynolds Central School, later attending MUCC in Melfort where she graduated highschool in 1983. She was active in the local Beatty Skating Club where she taught Can Skate and became Carnival Queen in 1981. Susan made many memories cleaning and polishing her father’s Model-T car. She spent much of her spare time doing this in order to attend the local fair. As a teenager Susan was employed at Frazer’s Jewellery Store, where she worked after school and on weekends.
Susan married Jim Vanderbyl shortly after graduating high school on October 29, 1983. She met the love of her life at a very young age, but took some time to warm up to him. From this union came her two children Chad William and Rebecca Amanda Maria.
Shortly after marriage, Susan began her career with the health region, where she worked as a Care Aide until her retirement in February 2016. Susan became very involved in their local Catholic Church after having her children, where she taught alter servings and volunteered her time. She was responsible for setting up the church camp that allowed students to attend and learn. Susan participated in managing the family farm, cooking meals and delivering them to the boys in the field.
Susan’s joys in life included horseback riding, gardening, swimming and sitting by her fish pond. Susan’s ultimate joy was being a grandmother. She later become known more as Oma than Susan (this was to all the children in our rural community). Susan retired in 2016 specifically to devote her time to being Oma. Susan looked forward to her weekly library dates for story hour with Parker. She was always planning to continue this on with her other grandchildren.
Susan was a kind, caring and giving soul, always giving everything and expecting nothing in return.
Her fight began in April 2013 when she was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She won this battle and went on to return to work post surgeries and treatment. She soon after retired and indulged in the retirement life. Susan was re diagnosed in June of 2018 and fought a hard and painful battle. She passed peacefully with her family by her side on October 19, 2018.
Susan will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 35 years James (Jim) Vanderbyl, her children and grandchildren Chad (Kendra), and Parker and Hudson Vanderbyl, Rebecca (Lane) and Gauge Williams, her mother Shirley (David) Geddes and brother Raymond Lobb. She also leaves behind numerous family and friends.
Susan is predeceased by her father Lyell Lobb, her mother and father-in-law Bill and Audrey Vanderbyl.
